I’m pumped to announce that we have nailed down our speaker for the Middle School Retreat.  We are going to have the privilege of hearing from Chip Paul, the middle school pastor at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church. Be sure to be praying for Chip as he prepares to share with us what God has put on his heart.  It’s going to be a great retreat!

The semi-annual children’s consignment sale at the Cobb Civic Center is August 13-16.  They are always in need of volunteers from the community.  They have community service letters available on site that would accompany your NCCS Community Service paperwork.  The easiest way to see what shifts are available and to sign up is to go to their website: www.bornagainblessings.com

We are taking the seniors whitewater rafting on Saturday, August 16.  Click the link below to read all of the info…print it out…and send it back today to hold your spot!

We had a great planning meeting with the FCA Leadership Team last night. This is going to be a great opportunity for NCCS athletes to grow in their faith. Our first FCA will be Friday, September 5 at 7am in the Black Box. Be there…and invite someone to come with you!

(special thanks to Evan McGovern for making the cool poster)

I am pumped to announce that we have lined up our worship band for camp this year.  It will be a combination of Six Piece Suit and the Chris Coleman Band.  You can check out their music online by clicking the band pictures below…

I hope you are getting excited! I am pumped…less than 2 months and we’ll be at SharpTop. See you there!

Hey NCCS Retreat Planning Crew….

Here is the first thing I want your input on for the retreat.

This year I have decided that we need to mix up the speaking a little bit. We will have 4 main session…Monday evening, Tuesday morning, Tuesday evening, and Wednesday morning. Those are always a great time to worship and be taught. This year I would like to use “in house” speakers. I could use the same speaker for all the sessions or two people for two each, etc.

I am also adding some “seminars for lack of a cooler word at this point” each day for one hour after lunch. I was thinking of asking some of our teachers to come ready to teach a “seminar for lack of a cooler word at this point” about something they are really interested in that they might not normally get to teach on. For instance, if I was going to ask Amy Wallace, I might ask her to do an hour one day on “Songwriting”. I was thinking of having 5 or 6 each day for students to choose from. Every student has to go to one each day, but they would be limited to 30-40 people depending on the topic.

The theme for the retreat is Philippians 2:2 “then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.” The main sessions will focus on this theme and the “seminars…” will be based on all sorts of different things that appeal to high school students.

So…here are the 2 questions…

Who would you be interested in hearing from during the main sessions and why?

Who would you be interested in hearing from during the “seminars” and what topics would you like to hear about?

Bonus question…

What is a better word for “seminar”…I’m not sure I’ll have much luck selling the excitement of a seminar 🙂

getting ready to launch the new site for the 2008-2009 school year. should be up in a week or so. see you back here!

Update for Wednesday, April 2nd

We had a private tour of Capitol Hill today including a 20 minute visit with Senator Saxby Chambliss.  The Library of Congress was very exciting to walk through and our students were very reverent and respectful at The Holocaust Museum.  Last night we toured some of the monuments.  Thursday we are off to the 19 museums which comprise The Smithsonian and will begin our journey home after dinner.  See you soon!

Tuesday update

02Apr08

On Tuesday we went to the White House, Arlington Cemetery and Mount Vernon. I’m continually impressed by how God used George Washington to impact our country forever. Guess how many schools in the U.S. are named after George Washington? You’re right! 740, Wow! Hopefully, the students are understanding the significance of our National heritage. They were very respectful and reverent at Arlington when we witnessed the changing of the guard. The students are having a great time being with each other. Today, Wednesday, we’re off to the Library of Congress, the Capital Building and we’ll have a nighttime tour of the monuments.

Have a great day, Marty Frendt
